Mom had ugly clothespin bags so I decided to make a new one, didn't find such picture from internet i wanted for reference so created my own from this kind. I assume mom likes more of actual bags when the pins follow you while hanging the laundry, so I made such. Her former bags had snap fasteners, I made zipper closure. The strap is adjustable, coz also mom's husband hangs the laundry sometimes and he's way taller than her :p
Red fabric used to be someone's T-shirt 8) bought it from a flea market.

I also needed a new make-up bag before moving, so i sewed such. Result is a bit smaller than what I had in mind..
Also this fabric is from flea market ^^ Pattern I used is found here (i left the strap out).
I was planning to do with different pattern, but realized just in time the fabrics of choice wouldn't work with such pattern anyhow.

I've been so busy with our new apartment I haven't started any crafts yet, but I baked for dad and his friend when they brought us a bookcase!
White chocolate - plum - yogurt - tart 8)
I was little disappointed with it, turned out it's not as yummy as it sounds, I call such pies adult pie, as older people find them tastier (= less sugar). Anyway, recipe to follow, if someone wants to try it out.

The pattern said easy, right there in the title.....

they lied......Collapse )
I can move in it, so that's a plus

Considering that this is the absolute first time I have ever tried to make a blouse for myself, and a fitted one at that, I'm not too unhappy. I have an idea of the tweaks I need to do on the next one, including skipping the collar :-)

gratuitous show and tell? [Jul. 7th, 2010|04:11 pm]

I've got a booth at a little crafts fair on the 17th and I've been cranking out all kinds of stuff. This is a mix of my nicer stuff and things that are destined for the $5 bin (3 for $10).

My biggest problem right now is scraping together a decent display system on a shoestring budget. Anyone have some suggestions?

Wedding finery [Jun. 25th, 2010|04:46 pm]
For People Who Like to Make Things Themselves

Just wanted to share this with the world:

Last night I finished my hair jewelry!

It is a silver filigree brooch with an onyx in the middle. The brooch is nestled into black lace and has 3 circles of blue tulle behind the lace. The whole thing is sewn on to a small hair comb.
Since our colors for the wedding are blue, silver and black, this fits in well.

The brooch in the middle belonged to my grandmother, who died a few years ago. She was the wisest, most accepting person I've ever met, and I miss her nearly every day. I always wear something of hers on special
occasions; this way I get to have her with me.

I knew I wanted to incorporate this brooch into my wedding outfit, but didn't know how. I'd had a couple of ideas before this one, and once I'd conceived of the hair toy idea, I knew I had it.

I am so pleased I'll be able to wear her brooch in my hair.

In other news, my elder daughter has started making the beaded necklaces she, her sister and I will wear. They are looking VERY pretty. I shall have to post pictures of them when they are done.

Foxy muff! [Mar. 23rd, 2010|03:10 pm]

Another knitting post!
This was a bit longer project than the calorimetry and last threats were tied off yesterday. It's going to be a present, the very first time i saw the pattern i knew i wanna do this for her, it was suppose to be a x-mas gift last year but i didn't find the yarn i wanted; orange Tango, dunno if they don't make it anymore or why it wasn't in the stores.. Before coming to Israel i finally found from local cheap store some German yarn -Koala- that seemed okay for this and also white Tango look-alike -called Funny-  for the tail ^^

Pattern here (only in finnish, sorry). I did my fox with half amount of the stitches so it became single layered and i think it works just fine like that, also reformed the nose area a bit.
Tail became little too wide..
Eyes were suppose to be black but my "almost-mother-in-law" didn't have any so i thought the blue ones will bring little more personality  :)

Calorimetry [Mar. 22nd, 2010|11:47 pm]

After a very long break i finally finished something; calorimetry! Pattern here. Very fast and easy to make.
It was supposed to be for my boyfriend, but it became too short. The pattern says 120 stitches, but someone said it's too much, 80 was enough for her, so i did it with 90 stitches.. obviously i knit quite tight coz it barely fits for me and i have pretty small head :D Some other colour would have been nicer, but I'm currently living abroad and that yarn was only one i have, and i really wanted to knit something :D

Anyhow, it will be awesome to wear in the autumn.

I did another one for the bf with 120 stitches and not that wide coz he asked me to, but it's not good either, i guess the problem is his head shape :D need to try something else..

First finished quilt of 2010 [Jan. 26th, 2010|07:30 pm]

I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago, but could not post about it before this week. It's a quilt I made for my new niece, and I figured her parents aught to see it first.

I made it from a bunch of scraps, including fabric that is very special to her mother. The front is cotton and the back is flannel.
On to the next project! (which is VERY different...)
